Hi,
I have accidentally removed myself from the Home folder of my local
installation of reporting services. My security group was using an old
domain group and RS warned me that it was invalid. I deleted the entry
which was Content Manager, thinking that I was in the
BuiltIn/Administrators group and therefore would still have access to
localhost/reports. Unfortunately, I realised that I was not in the
administrators group on my PC (A company policy), so I lost all access
to my reports deployment. However, when I got added to the local
administrators group, I found that I still did not have access to the
Reports website.
My question is: Is there a way to manually add a user as a Content
Manager without using the http://localhost/Reports website? I seem to
recall a possible way using rsconfig, but have not been able to find a
relevant posting. I really do not want to uninstall and reinstall RS.
Thanks! To reply to myself in case other people ever have this problem:
I don't think you can do it with rsconfig.
In the end, I went into the ReportServer database and looked at the
users, roles and policies tables.
I found a user that was in the database as a Content Manager
(builtin/administrators is usually in there by default, but I had
another user there).
I then edited the PolicyUserRole table to change the user_id for a user
that had Content Manager access and a policy of "0" for my own user.
This let me back into the localhost/reports page where I then added my
domain name again. If you don't have a Content Manager already, take
the guid for that role and paste it into your role.
If I didn't have a user in there, I assume I could just add one, but I
am unsure about the generation of the guid.
I don't know what the official way to do this is, but as a hack, it
worked.

RS resides on, then you will automatically have all the rights you need with
RS.

Restoring multiple transaction logs
Can anyone tell me if there is an easy way to restore
multiple transaction logs at the same time as a group from
within the Enterprise console? When I select multiple
(consecutive) transaction logs to restore I receive a
message about the transaction log not being part of "a
multifamily(RAID) media set". There has to be an easier
way.The error message say that you striped the backup, i.e., doesn't have anything to do with applying
multiple logs in sequence.

as if it was a single "backup set".
In EM, under "Restore Database", you should be able to find a dialog that
lets you choose a "recovery plan" of multiple steps. There will be a "check
box" to click for each backup set to apply (starting with a full database
backup, etc).

restoring master database
Hi group!
I am trying to do the following for a recovery strategy: If server1 fails
all databases should be restored on server2. I did a restore of the master
database as described in some articles (starting in single user mode,
restoring...) after restoring my sql server does not start. An example error
message is:
FCB::Open failed: Could not open device d:\sql\MSSQL\data\pubs.mdf for
virtual device number (VDN) 1.
On server1 my data directory is d:\sql\mssql\data - on server2 my data
directory is d:\sql\mssql\mssql\data (configuration error during setup). He
wants to load all databases but of course does not have all the databases -
I have to recover them now - but how - I can't start the service..
Anyone an idea?
best regards
andyIf you are going to restore master from one server onto another, then you
need to have all DB's in the exact same location as they were on the
original server.

hmm - but what are the steps that I have to take - Am I right that I first
have to restore all the databases and the last step is to restore the master
database?

1- Install SQL Server on new server
2- Restore individual databases to new server using one of three techniques:
a- Restore with third party software with new location
b- restore with manual restore command with move option
c- re-attach copies of detached databases
3- Get a list of the users from each application database
4- Either run sp_helplogins (and related scripts/procedures) or use the list
from 3 to rebuild access.

To recover from a disaster, perform the following steps after acquiring
suitable replacement hardware:
Install Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000, and apply the appropriate service
pack. Verify that appropriate domain functionality exists.
Install SQL Server, and apply the appropriate service pack. Restore the
master and msdb database backups. Restart the server after restoring the
master database.
Reconfigure the server for the appropriate network libraries and security
mode.
Confirm that SQL Server is running properly by checking SQL Server Service
Manager and the Windows application log. If the Windows NT 4.0 or Windows
2000 name was changed, use sp_dropserver and sp_addserver to match it with
the SQL Server computer name.
Restore and recover each database according to its recovery plan.
Verify the availability of the system. Run a base functionality script to
ensure correct operation.
Allow users to resume normal usage.

thanks for your help - the recovery with the same paths was o.k - I restored

with the msdb because sql server prompts that the msdb has been created with
a different version - both sql servers have service pack 4..?

Allow users to resume normal usage.

thanks for your help - the recovery with the same paths was o.k - I restored

restoring from file group
Hello,
I would like to do a restore from file group for one of my databases. I was able to do a restore when I had the database under FULL recovery model. Is there a way to restore from file groups under the "SIMPLE " recovery model ie without performing a transaction log.
ThanksWhat was the statement used to restore?
I think there shouldn't be any issue pertaining to recovery model set on the database.|||there is a problem with tlog backups. i know that you cannot backup the tlog while the db is in simple mode.
i'm not sure however that there are any issues with recovery. i have recovered northwind many times and it is in simple mode.
